EPICURE Malaysia 2008 is so much more than gourmet food and luxury goods. Apart from the cooking classes, the three-day premium lifestyle fair, which will be held at the Sime Darby Convention Centre in Bukit Kiara from tomorrow to Sunday, will also boast workshops ranging from health to personal safety. A peek at the workshop timetable shows an interesting line-up of topics inlcuding property investment, the Malaysia My Second Home programme, golf, financial freedom made easy, women’s self defence, first aid & CPR and Canon Foto photobook printing. AsiaReach Events managing director Datin Su Wai Fun said there would be 24 workshops each day during the fair. “Everyone can have an insight of what we have to offer in this country,” she said. One of the highlights will be the exclusive workshop on etiquette and protocol delivered by Tunku Dara Tunku Tan Sri Naquiah Tuanku Ja’afar. “She will be teaching people how to conduct themselves when meeting with royalty and dignitaries and the roles of host and guest,” Su said. Fashion guru Gillian Hung, who is the Malaysian Official Designers’ Association president, will be giving tips on personal grooming. Surgeon Dr Tan Geok Puan will be sharing information about the modern techniques on beauty enhancement, as well as some facts and fiction on plastic surgery. Healthy living is also emphasised through workshops on wining and dining - a healthy heart, maintaining health the Ayurvedic way, healing food and hormones, medical Qigong, the myths of chiropractic and nutrition and inflammation, and breast cancer awareness. Wine, cigar, coffee and tea appreciation sessions are also on the list, together with culinary workshops conducted by local and foreign chefs serving at well-known F&B outlets here. “Most of these classes are quite interactive and the participants get to sample the cuisines, too,” AsiaReach Events business development director (special projects) Simon Donnellan said. While one workshop costs RM60 per participant, the public can opt for a one-day unlimited workshop pass at RM100, two-day unlimited workshop pass at RM180 or three-day unlimited workshop pass at RM250. “The prices have been lowered compared with previous years to welcome more people to join us,” Su said. There will also be an exhibition showcasing a variety of gourmet food, household items and premium lifestyle products from around the world. “There will be close to 100 exhibitors. Admission and parking are free for all. “Everyone is welcome to come and discover new things, while most of the products are a bargain. “With any purchase over RM50, the public are entitled to participate in our lucky draw with fantastic prizes from the exhibitors,” Donnellan said. The fair, now in its fifth year, came about in 2003 following the company’s keenness to open the eyes of the public to what is available on the Malaysian gourmet scene. “We have a lot of fine food produced in this country. “The fair is to show to the people that they can get a variety of food from all over the world right here in Malaysia. “Also, it is a way to encourage the F&B industry in the country,” Su said.
