Kota Kinabalu: Local business operators are advised to improve their food quality and services, especially when it comes to catering the needs of foreign visitors to Sabah.

As the international arrival has increased by 27 per cent in the past eight months, with most visitors being Europeans, it is important to make them feel at home, said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun .

He said that the influx of tourists into the State indicates that they are confident of Sabah and that there is a need to change to serve their needs.

"For that to sustain, everybody in the industry must contribute and the service industry, like food industry, must serve them good and quality food so that they don't get stomach ache.

"About 60 per cent of all outbound tourists from the world come from EuropeÉso it makes sense for us to serve them with the finest food, wine or whatever we have in Sabah.

"This goes in tandem with our long term plan to make sure that KK or Sabah is not only famous for its flora and fauna, mountain and beaches but also for the warm hospitality of its people and the highest standard of its service that we can offer to foreigners."

Masidi was speaking at the officiating of the opening of ConsFood Likas at Lot 1-5 Taman Yakin Jaya opposite Kian Kok Middle School here, Sunday.

Also present were Consolidated Foodchain Sdn Bhd Managing Director and Founder of ConsFood David Foo and its Executive Director Victor S K Wong.

Masidi said in view of the Malaysia My Second Home programme, there is a growing need for a more sophisticated and fine products to cater for this group.

"Bread and pastry in one of them and it's the way how you present it that makes the differences.

You know the Mat Salleh are noted for their love of bread and anything to do with bread," he said.

Meanwhile, Victor said that the idea of the Consfood outlet was to provide customers a convenient place to shop and enjoy good quality products, refreshment and meals in a more comfortable environment.

The 5-in-1-concept store, innovated by Consfood founder David, consists a cold storage, bakery ingredients, chocolates and pastries, bakery and cafe, all under one roof.
