The national carrier is expected to increase the number of flights to five and gradually add more for flights to be on a daily basis in about a year's time, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed told reporters yesterday. He said he had been informed of the development by Malaysian Airlines, which is now flying four times a week on the route. Indian businessmen have been requesting for a daily flight between Bangalore and Kuala Lumpur in order to boost trade and investment between the two countries, pointing out that more air connections were currently available with Bangkok and Singapore than Kuala Lumpur. Air connection is important not only for business links but also tourism, said Mustapa who is currently in India to lead a trade and investment mission to Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore. The minister said there was big potential for increased trade, investment and tourism ties between the two countries, and Malaysia needed to be more aggressive in promoting them. According to him, Malaysia is an attractive tourist destination for many Indians. Mustapa said there was also potential to attract more high net worth individuals in India to buy properties in Malaysia and participate in the country's "My Second Home" programme. So far, he said only about 500 Indians have join the programme which offered benefits that included multiple visa entry. "We believe the potential is more and with the mission we have mounted this time, there will be more interest on the part of the high net worth individual in India to purchase properties in Malaysia," he added. On the outcome in Mumbai which marked the second stop for the Malaysian delegation, Mustapa said 96 business meetings were held with the Indian business community, and discussions were fruitful although still exploratory in nature. He said there were already firm commitments from Indian businessmen to visit Malaysia and find out more about potential businesses. -- BERNAMA Add this page to your favorite Social Bookmarking websites
