CHENNAI: Swine flu concerns apart, Malaysia is wooing Indian tourists with exciting travel packages and parallely educating about the disease, the tourism minister of a Southeast Asian country said here on Saturday.Dato’ Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said, people coming in are made to fill forms about their health. “We do not quarantine anyone,” she added.Accompanied by a high-level official delegation including Director General Dato’ Mirza Mohammad Taiyab Beg to promote tourism in her country, Dr Yen said “Our Prime Minister has given a Key Performance Index to all ministers and mine is to lay emphasis on tourism which is why I am here travelling across India to tell people to come to Malaysia.” Among the list of attractive packages is ‘One Malaysia’ package whereby one can travel to Kuala Lumpur from anywhere in India for Rs 17,000 which includes return airfare and accommodation, while for beyond Kuala Lumpur, to name a few locales like Langkawi, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and many more exotic destinations are at Rs 19,500.India is the second largest tourist generating market outside the ASEAN region for Malaysia, contributing 10 per cent to the non-ASEAN arrivals.Indian visiting to Malaysia grew over thrice from 132,127 in the year 2000 to 550,738 in 2008.Thus the overall market share of Indian arrivals to Malaysia in the corresponding years has increased by 2.9 per cent.For the period between January- July 2009, the number of Indian tourists arrivals recorded was 333,981.Revenue received by Malaysia from India market stands at RM1,496 million (USD 427 million) 2008.The minister also explained about the ‘Malaysia My 2nd Home –MM2H’ package wherein one can get a visa to Malaysia for up to 10 years and stay continually.
