Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop said for Sarawak, 195 cases were settled with 662 cases under process while for Peninsular Malaysia, 252 cases were settled with 160 cases pending. He told Dewan Rakyat that a task force was created at ministry and department level to implement programmes like MyDaftar, mobile service in Sabah and Sarawak and counter service at hospitals," he said in reply to a question by Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (BN-Bintulu). Meanwhile, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said NRD had to be careful and sensitive as Malaysian citizenship could not be given out to those not qualified. "Citizenship is based on the citizenship status and marriage status of parents when the birth occured," he said in a written reply to a question by Dr P. Ramasamy (DAP-Batu Kawan). NRD received over 4,000 citizenship applications monthly from those not qualified including those on temporary work passes and student passes. Applications were also received from those on social visit passes like the Malaysia My Second Home programme and others with passes issued by the Immigration Department. Hishammuddin refuted Dr Ramasamy's claim that NRD had become bureaucratic, insensitive and lacked respect for the people adding that its responsibility to process citizenship applications was a big trust. -- BERNAMA Add this page to your favorite Social Bookmarking websites
